Wagyu content calculator.

Pick the sire and dam and see the Wagyu percentage and F-grade of their progeny — from an F1 cross up to a Fullblood.

ProgenyF150% Wagyu

Progeny Wagyu content = (sire + dam) ÷ 2. Registry grade thresholds can vary slightly; a small non-Wagyu founder means Purebred rather than Fullblood.

How breeding up works

Crossbreeding builds Wagyu content one generation at a time. Each mating to a Fullblood roughly halves the remaining non-Wagyu share: 50% at F1, 75% at F2, 87.5% at F3, and 93.75% at F4 — the point at which an animal can be registered Purebred. Frequently asked questions

How is Wagyu percentage calculated?

A calf's Wagyu content is the average of its sire's and dam's Wagyu percentages. A Fullblood (100%) over a non-Wagyu cow (0%) gives an F1 at 50%; a Fullblood over an F1 gives an F2 at 75%, and so on.

What is the difference between Purebred and Fullblood?

Fullblood Wagyu trace 100% to Japanese Wagyu with no other breed. Purebred are bred up to a high Wagyu percentage — commonly 93.75% (F4) or above — and registered as such, but carry a non-Wagyu founder somewhere in the pedigree.

What grade is a Wagyu-Angus cross?

A Fullblood Wagyu bull over an Angus cow produces an F1, about 50% Wagyu. Joining a Wagyu bull back over that F1 female gives an F2 at about 75%.
